  5. The next sections explain how to install StarWriter and let you know what hardware and software is required for using StarWriter.

  8. System Requirements

  10. To use StarWriter, you need at least the following hardware and software configuration:
  11.  
  12. + 11 MB free space on your hard disk
  13. + 16 MB RAM or virtual memory on
  14.

  16. Installing to a Hard Disk
  17.  
  18. Installing is a simple copy operation. If you started StarWriter from CD the first time, you have to remove the "StarWriter.Config file from the Preferences Folder, before you install to the hard disk.

  20. To install StarWriter to your hard disk, follow these steps:
  21.  
  22. 1. Drag the "StarWriter for Power Macintosh" Folder to your hard disk (where you want StarWriter install). This Folder contains StarWriter and its associated files.
  23.  
  24. 2. Open the folder and drag the Font-Suitcase "StarBats" out of the "StarWriter" Folder and into the System Folder of your start up disk. You'll be asked if you want to move this file in the fonts folder; click OK to allow this.

  26. This completes the StarWriter hard disk installation. Double-click the StarWriter application icon to open it.

  28. You may need virtual memory, open the Control Panels from the Apple-Menu and double-click the Memory icon and switch virtual memory on.

  30. Limitations of this version:
  31.  
  32. This version of StarWriter was modified for this CD-ROM.  It is fully functional except for the following limitations.  All occuring limitations do not appear in the full version of StarWriter.

  34. - You cannot choose a paper tray in the Page Setup Dialog
  35. - You cannot use the none-menu entry
  36. - You can Save documents only in the StarWriter File Format

  104. During the past 14 months, Star Division's US office began the
  105. establishment and distribution of StarView, Star Division's C++ development
  106. tool.  We are currently preparing the complete translation of the manuals,
  107. reference cards, and sample documents for StarWriter. Our goal is to begin
  108. distribution of StarWriter by the second quarter of1994.

  112. Star Division is Germany`s largest standard software manufacturer, and is also
  113. represented in Austria, Switzerland and the UK. Besides vector-oriented graphics
  114. programs and dBase-compatible database applications, the company concentrates on
  115. word processing software. In the MS-DOS area, Star Division's StarWriter far
  116. outsold MS-Word and WordPerfect.  StarWriter became the most popular standard software
  117. in the German-speaking countries.

  126. StarWriter is already a full-featured wordprocessor with which you can do almost
  127. anything! You can print, load, save, edit, create tables, and so on. For

  130. How do you get started?
  131.  
  132. If you what to evaluate StarWriter for the Power Macintosh, simply load the
  133. sample files and try out every feature you want.

  135. For writing text, first move the Fontfiles into your font folder. You should
  136. find this in the StarWriter Folder.
  137.  
  138. Pay attention to the right mouse button! StarWriter for Power Macintosh has an
  139. object-oriented user interface, which means that the icon bar changes with each
  140. type of object (text, table, graphic, textframe), when you depress the button
  141. within the workspace.
  142.  
  143. If you use the right mouse button (or SHIFT-COMMAND-CLICK with
  144. one-button-mice) when not in the workspace, you have access to the object
  145. properties of the selected object.  In other words, you can access Bubble-Help
  146. with the right mouse button on the menu bar, ribbon bar, and toolbar.
